SHRI SHIVAJI MARATHA SOCIETY - BACKGROUND AND PROFILE

Shri Shivaji Maratha Society was established in June, 1918 under the able guidance of his Highness Chhatrapati Shrimant Late Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur Sansthan. The society is established in Pune in the memory of the Great Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji who spent his childhood in and around Pune. The Society is registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. Quite a large number of great personalities have endeavored for the qualitative and quantitative development of the society, viz Late Shri. Shrimant Khase Saheb Maharaj of Devas, Baburao Jedhe, Guruvarya Baburao Jagtap, Padmashri Kakasaheb Wagh, Karmveer Bhausaheb Hire, Baburao Gholap, Deshbhakt Keshvarao Jedhe, Baburao Sanas, Rambhau Khese, Keshavrao Dhere, Ganpatrao Shedge, Bhaskarrao Jadhav, Raobahaddur Thube, Sakharamji Jedhe to mention a few. In addition to these personalities, Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune Zilla Parishad and a large number of social workers and donors have extended their cooperation for the development of the society. We are very proud of great social workers Dr. Baba Adhav, Nilubhau Phule the actor & social worker, Rajarambapu Patil – political leader, Bhai Vaidya – socialist leader are the products of Shri Shivaji Maratha Society. Our society has given and created four vice-chancellors of different Universities in Maharashtra. A large number of Social Workers, Politicians & Educationalist are the creation of our renowned society.

At present Shrimant Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur is a President of the Society,Shri.Rajendra Jagtap is Vice - President of the Society, Shri Janardan Thorat is an Honorary Secretary of the Society, Shri.Vikas Gogawale is an Honorary Joint Secretary of the Society,Shri.Jagdish Jedhe is working as a Treasurer of the Society, Shri.Satyendra Kanchan is working as a Chairman of Governing Council of the Society, Shri.Padmakar Pawar is working as a Chairman of Executive Council of the Society and Adv. N. D. Patil is working as a Chairman of College Development Committee of Law College.

I have a great pleasure in welcoming you at Shri Shivaji Maratha Society’s Law College, Pune 02. Shri Shivaji Maratha Society’s Law College, Pune is established in the year 2003 with the LL.B. Three Year Law Course and in the year 2004 B.A.LL.B Five Year Law Course with the aim of imparting Quality Legal Professional Education to students coming from all strata of the society, upbringing the masses. The College also runs two Diploma Courses namely Diploma in Labour Laws and Labour Welfare as well as Diploma in Taxation Laws. “Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay” being the mission statement of the Society and the same is followed by our Law College. Our commitment is to impart Quality Legal Education through expert class lectures along with Clinical Education inputs through Moot Courts, Debates, Legal Literacy Camps and Research Activites. Dedicated Teachers, well equipped Library, Separate Computer Laboratory and other Infra –structural facilities are conductive for learning and development. Shri Shivaji Maratha Society’s Law College, Pune is managed by Shri Shivaji Maratha Society, Pune. Its main object is to infuse notions of public good, ethical values etc. Because a commercial recession can be quickly transformed into a buoyant economy, but a moral recession cannot be shaken off for years. Therefore, along with legal expertise our college wants to embark upon, impart ethical and moral jurisprudence for public good.
